MIL-STD-2073-1E Code Reader: understand packaging codes and instructions.
How it works
- Open your solicitation or contract.
- Find PREP FOR DELIVERY:, the block marked in red.
- Take a screenshot or snippet of that block and paste it anywhere on this page with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V. You can also copy all its text and paste it into the text option below.
- Compare the codes with your requirement and fix any that were misread.
- Read the preservation method details. Open the full packing steps if you need them.

Or paste the requirement as text (copy and paste all text from "PREP FOR DELIVERY:")
Sources and limits
Preservation method instructions are plain-language summaries of MIL-STD-2073-1E. Use the standard and your contract for exact wording. The figures come from the DLA Packaging and Marking Guide, May 2025 (Distribution Statement A). The guide does not list the full code tables, so all other code meanings come from MIL-STD-2073-1E dated 23 May 2008. Your browser reads the text in your screenshot on your device, and the image is not uploaded. Automatic reading can misread characters, so compare every code with your requirement. Marking placement comes from MIL-STD-129R and the guide, and pallet and hazardous material rules come from the 2016 DLA Master List and MD00100452 Rev C.
Later changes to MIL-STD-2073-1E can differ. For example, Change 2 removes A-A-59136 from code NA.
